Dosbox Error This Program Requires Microsoft Windows
Best Answer: DOSBox is a DOS emulator and can only play DOS games. Windows is completely different from DOS, the only similarity is that their both made by Microsoft. If it says 'This game requires Microsoft Windows,' then obviously it's a windows game and cannot be installed on a DOS based Operating System or a DOS emulator such as DOSBox. Playing a Windows game in DOS is like trying to play a Macintosh game on an XBOX 360, it's not going to work because they're completely different systems. I did some quick research on Castle of the Winds and I believe this is a Windows 3.1 game, is that correct?
If so, then we could use DOSBox to install Windows 3.1 assuming you have that version of windows laying around somewhere. Non NT versions of windows where just very complicated DOS shells so you can install them inside DOSBox.
This Program Requires Microsoft Windows
DOSBoxWiki talk:Community Portal. I then tried to use DosBox and Dosshell to run the program. It says 'This program requires Microsoft Windows.' Game says it requires windows. To run the.exe I get the message 'This Program Requires Microsoft Windows' And I'm at a loss. Run Windows 3.x in DOSBox.

What exactly does, or does not happen? Any error messages? - I've never actually used DOS BOX directly to install a game, but have several games from Good Old Games, that installed with DOS BOX and they all work on Win10. - Before the 1511 Win10 update my DOS based games did require the Compatibility setting ' Disable Display Scaling with high DPI settings', or they would not fit the screen properly, but this has not been a problem since the 1511 update.
- I only have a handful of DOS based games and just found they will not run ( 'This app cannot run on your PC' ) if using the games main.exe (when one can be found). One of the games (Rayman Forever) has a shortcut in the install folder that I previously had thought was an.exe. These shortcuts have a long file path that links through DOS BOX.
E: Others Rayman Forever DOSBOX DOSBox.exe' -conf '. DosboxRayman.conf' -conf '. DosboxRayman_single.conf' -noconsole -c exit Other games (ProPinball - Timeshock ) have an.exe in the install folder, but I get the error above if I use them. Only the desktop shortcut from when the game installed (which I have no idea how to replace if I lost the current one without re-download/installing the game. Or finally learning how to use DOS BOX), will open the game.

Also i have allowed the dosbox to communicate through Windows Firewall in the same way you described.
